Dr Laura Cohen, chief executive of the British Ceramic Confederation, (BCC) has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

The MBE has been awarded for services to the ceramics industry.

With its headquarters in Federation House, Stoke-on-Trent, BCC is the trade association for the UK ceramic manufacturing industry, representing the common and collective interests of all sectors of the industry.

Its 100 member companies cover the full spectrum of ceramic manufacture, including the supply of materials and comprise more than 90 per cent of the industry’s manufacturing capacity.

Dr Cohen said: “I’m absolutely delighted to receive this award not just for me but for the marvellous team at BCC, both past and present, as well as our very supportive Board and members.

“The award also helps raise the profile of the ceramics industry at a critical time during the economic recovery.”

Dr Cohen joined the BCC in 2008.

As well as heading the Confederation Dr Cohen works closely with the European trade association for the ceramics industry, Cerame-Unie, where she is chairman of the Environment Committee and a member of the Board of Directors.

Dr Cohen is also chairman of The Energy Intensive Users’ Group and a member of the CBI’s Trade Association Council. She is also an associate of Newnham College, Cambridge and a life member of the Council of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce.
