A Coventry-based trade body’s work to tackle carbon emissions in the national building materials supply chain has seen it shortlisted for three prestigious awards.
The Builders Merchants Federation (BMF), based at Coventry Business Park, has reached the finals of the Sustainability Champion and Best New Event awards at the Association Excellence Awards 2022, and is also a finalist in the Best Sustainability Initiative category at the Memcom Awards.
Both sustainability award entries centre around the BMF’s cross-industry commitment to a lower carbon future. This includes the establishment of a forum dedicated to sharing information and support, and clear best practice on working towards zero carbon targets.
The Best New Event shortlist is based on the BMF’s work to showcase sustainable innovation within the building materials supply chain at a Parliamentary Reception. Held ahead of COP26 in autumn last year, the reception highlighted climate-conscious innovations in British construction products and demonstrated how the supply network has a crucial role to play in heating and hot water systems as well as decarbonising homes.
John Newcomb, BMF CEO, said: “Sustainability is a critical issue for the construction industry.
“It is a credit to our members that the work they are driving forward has been shortlisted for these prestigious awards, as they take positive steps to reduce emissions and improve sustainability through best practice and innovation.”
The BMF represents 850 merchant and supplier companies who together have combined sales of over £44bn and employ over 225,000 people in the building materials industry.
The Memcom awards will be presented on September 29, and the Association Excellence Awards on October 14. Both events recognise excellence and celebrate achievements in professional membership organisations.
